Our Pastor: Mark Louis Johnson Sr.

Born in Anderson, Indiana, the Rev. Mark Louis Johnson Sr. was licensed to preach the Gospel at the Second Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio on December 26, 1993. His educational pursuits led him to Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania where he received a B.A. degree in English and earned the honor of being the first African-American Commencement Speaker in the school's two hundred and seven year history. After graduation in 1994, Rev. Johnson continued to serve in ministry as an assistant to his father at the historic Union Grove Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Following a professional basketball career in Europe, he was accepted as a graduate student at Princeton Theological Seminary where he earned the degrees of Master's of Divinity and Master's of Theology in Christian Education. While in New Jersey, Rev. Johnson served as Executive Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at the Metropolitan Baptist Church of New Jersey under the leadership of Dr. David Jefferson Sr. where he received the 100 Positive Men of New Jersey. award for his outstanding work with at-risk youth.
Rev. Johnson expanded his ministry to the non-profit sector by accepting the position of National Best Men Program Director for the "Best Friends Foundation" in Washington, DC. This position connected him with school districts across the nation coordinating character-based education. In 2009, Rev. Johnson accepted the call to become the eighth Pastor of the The Liberty Hill Baptist Church where the vision is to be a family-focused, fun-loving, Christ-centered church.
Today Rev. Mark Johnson works as pastor, teacher, motivational speaker, educational advocate, and radio producer and host. Liberty Hill has experienced considerable growth since his arrival and is having an major impact in the city of Cleveland. Rev. Johnson and his wife Heather have been blessed with four children, Mark Jr., Jonathan, Victoria and Benjamin.
